Fishin' Papa caught this small bass in our backyard. We caught about five in all today...all rather small though. In this 90 degree weather, the only bait we're getting bites with is the Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw Fishing Lures 12 Pack Junebug . I believe it's something about purple lures this time of year.

When fishing in South Carolina the lakes and rivers are so full of bass that almost any method will work but here are a few suggestions to help you get started. Look for the bass around rocks, weeds, docks, coves, stumps, logs and under bridge pilings. Fishing the shallow water will usually prove to be rather productive as well because this is where many of the bass will be located especially during the spawning season. The smallmouth bass seem to be attracted to spinner lures that are bright and shinny. Crankbaits, plastic worms and bottom bumpers are also recommended along with using light tackle for the best results. The largemouth bass are drawn to spinnerbaits , crankbaits , topwater lures and buzzbaits . Always use caution and common sense when going out on any river or lake to help ensure your safety at all times. Bass fishing is a lot of fun and can be very exciting as long as you stay safe and follow the rules and regulations of the state. If you are not familiar with th...

These 5 tips will help you catch more fish. 1. Varying the speed of the retrieve gets better results than a stead retrieve. 2. Know the characteristics, habitat and food preferences of the fish you are after. 3. Learn the contours of lakes and streams you fish - the dropoffs, holes, weedbeds and the location of underwater bars. 4. Know the temperature ranges most favorable to the species of fish and the depth at which these ranges are located. 5. Have a good selection of lures, because fish are choosy and there is no perfect lure for all conditions. General tips that may improve your hook-up ratio: - Wear natural colored clothing when fishing clear waters. Blues, greens and browns blend into scenery and won't spook fish as easily. - Your line twisted? Remove all hardware and drag behind the boat for a short distance and twists will be removed. - When fishing pockets in lily pads and weeds, drop an Arbogast Hula Popper in lightly, then just give it a twitch. The comb...
